The Trust is well advanced in its plans to meet the demands of the anticipated second wave of pandemic swine flu. Preparations have been made to ensure continuity of treatment by maximising staff availability for front line care and treatment, and by identifying back up equipment and supplies.

At Southend University Hospital we consider the safety of our patients and visitors to be of paramount importance at all times. As such we regret we can no longer allow flowers at patients’ bedsides. The decision, which takes effect from June 22, has been taken on health and safety grounds and follows consultation with patients, the public and hospital staff.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. |

Welcome to Southend University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust – your hospital of choice |
|
"We are immensely proud of the range and quality of the services we provide and the people who provide them and hope you will find the various sections of this website useful and interesting whatever the reason for your visit. Please use this feedback link to send us your comments.
We recognise that patients expect us to provide them with both safe care and a good patient experience should they ever need to use our services. These aspects present the Trust main priorities as we look to ensure that all patients who chose Southend Hospital achieve the best possible health outcome. Please click here if you wish to see the details of our annual plan for this year.
In these days of Patient Choice, it is more important than ever before to listen carefully to the views of our patients and their representatives so that we can make sure we are able to respond to their needs. This is why we consider it equally vital to work closely with healthcare and other partner organisations such as GPs, Primary Care Trusts, local authorities, etc.
As a firmly-established Foundation Trust (since June 2006) we are actively introducing new ways of involving our governors and members (around 14,000) more closely in the present and future plans of the hospital. You are warmly welcome to apply for membership, please click here to open the membership application form.
We remain as determined as ever to make every aspect of the healthcare services we provide here at Southend University Hospital as caring, reliable, effective and safe as possible." |

To ensure the safety of all patients, all NHS organisations will in future be using the NHS number as the prime means of checking the identity of each person they treat. We would therefore ask you to bring your number with you when coming to Southend University Hospital for treatment. Your NHS number is a 10-digit number in a 3 3 4 format (eg, 123 456 7890) and is unique to you.
You should find it on your medical card and we would ask you to make a note of it. Some older cards may have your old NHS number. If it is not 10 digits long, please contact your GP or your local PCT to find out your new one.Your number will also be included on documents and correspondence used by NHS organisations. If you are coming into Southend University Hospital to give birth, your baby will be allocated a NHS number and this will be used by your GP to register your baby. If you come in as an emergency or needing urgent care, rest assured we will find your NHS number to support your treatment. |
