Breast Unit

Southend Hospital NHS Trust provides a wide range of breast services to the local population.

We have a well-established team of specialists who work within recognised guidelines for the management of breast disorders.

Southend Breast Unit is also the designated Cancer Centre for the people of South Essex, and provides the breast screening service for Shoebury, Thorpe Bay, Southend, Westcliff, Leigh, Thundersley, Canvey, Basildon, Stanford, Corringham, Grays, Lakeside, Rochford, Hockley, Rayleigh, and Wickford.

After accepting our membership in January 2002, the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer/Breast Cancer Cooperative Group recognised our clinical research work.

Southend Breast Unit diagnoses and treats over 300 new breast cancers each year. The Cancer Centre also receives for treatment a further 150 patients per annum diagnosed with cancer from the Breast Unit at Basildon Hospital.
