Making a stand against AIDS

06 December 2018

World AIDS Day is an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV, show their support for people living with HIV and to commemorate people who have died. This year, the LGBT + Group hosted an information stand in the Education Centre.

Many people still don't know the facts about how to protect themselves and others, and stigma and discrimination remain a reality for people living with the condition. It's also important to remember that HIV and AIDS are not the same thing.

Julie Newton, Employee Relations Advisor, said: "As a group we wanted to raise awareness and be part of this important day. In the UK, extremely effective treatment is available for HIV meaning that people living with HIV are able to expect a near normal life expectancy and good health. HIV effects people from all walks of life, so we would encourage everyone to have regular HIV tests."
