Former nurse brings over 30 years’ experience to Director of Operations role
14 February 2019
Mike Quinn, Director of Operations for Unscheduled & Emergency Care, joined the Trust in January 2019 bringing with him over 30 years of experience working in healthcare across the NHS, third-sector and private sector as well as a period working outside of the UK jurisdiction as Director of Hospitals’ for the Isle of Man Government.
A nurse by profession, Mike trained in Liverpool before
developing his clinical interests in oncology and palliative
care. His first senior management role was as Director of
Palliative Care services for Marie Curie Cancer Care in
Surrey before moving back to the NHS in a General Manager role at
King's College Hospital where he managed the Trust's portfolios for
Liver and Renal Services, Cardiac and Neurosciences and led the
development of King's Private and International business.
Mike went on to develop his commercial interest as Executive
Director of the London Independent Hospital in London's east end
before returning to NHS management in Portsmouth.
Mike said: "I have never lost sight of the fact that patients
are at the centre of everything that we do and that each decision
we take should be about improving the experience for patients,
service users and our colleagues alike. I have relocated to
Southend and therefore as a local resident and stake-holder I want
the best for the people of Southend and for the people that have
chosen Southend Hospital as their place of work.
"I have only been here for a very short time, but based on the
people I have met so far and the encouraging conversations that I
have had, I know that I have made the right decision joining the
team here. Together I believe we can and will do great things."
Mike has two grown up children and is a proud grandad to Barney.
For his sins he supports Everton FC and continues to enjoy the Arts
a passion that began in the late '70's when he studied art and
design in Liverpool, his birth city.
