Mr Singh was appointed as consultant at Southend in 2013 and has been instrumental in the setting up and running of the Kypros Nicolaides Fetal Medicine Unit, which provides a tertiary level fetal medicine service for patients in south Essex.

Mr Singh said: "I'm looking forward to working in my new role here at Southend.

I'm passionate about improving the services we provide for our patients and I'm looking forward to working closely with our neighbouring trusts to strengthen the services we provide."

He takes over from Colleen Begg, who has retired after a total of over 30 years in the NHS, the last five of which were spent at Southend, where she also had the role of Head of Midwifery and Gynaecology.
