New Worker Governors go full steam ahead

14 March 2019

Governors have an important role in making an NHS foundation trust publicly accountable for the services it provides. They bring valuable perspectives and contributions to its activities.

Importantly, as a governor they hold non-executive directors to account for the performance of the board and represent the interests of foundation trust members and the public.

This is going to be a good year for your Worker Governors as all of the available positions have been filled now that Chris Walkden, Stephanie Carey and Jesudass Johnselvan have joined Ted Lewin and Laura Hilton.

In 2019 Chris, Steph, Jes, Ted and Laura want to be more visible to staff and volunteers. They are aware that the Staff survey raised concerns about bullying within the Trust and have been approached by staff who have concerns over the limited number of people from ethnic minorities in senior positions.

Your Worker Governors would like to attend staff meetings to hear from you, but as everyone is very busy, contact by email at Worker.Governors@southend.nhs.uk is just as good. All correspondence is treated as confidential and they will make sure that you are heard and will follow up every enquiry. They are available to all staff and volunteers, no matter what your role is in our very busy Trust.

So if you have an issue that cannot be dealt with by your line manager, HR or the union, please contact our worker governors via: Worker.Governors@southend.nhs.uk
