CEO Clare Panniker's blog for February 2020
As we start to see the first glimmer of spring, I want to thank
all of our staff for their hard work.
It's been a busy and exciting few months. Winter always brings
with it real challenges for the NHS - but we have risen to those
challenges with the normal MSE grit, commitment and good
We are constantly working to improve the care we provide to our
patients, and never rest on our laurels. It's been so gratifying to
see major projects - like opening an additional ward at Basildon
and the infusion suite at Southend to create extra capacity -
sitting alongside initiatives like Home for Lunch at Mid Essex
making a real difference to those we care for.
The first phase of our clinical changes are also now in place,
including a new interventional radiology hub at Basildon, spinal
surgery centre at Southend and a centre of excellence for planned
orthopaedic surgery at Braintree Community Hospital. These have all
been a huge success thanks to the dedication and willingness of the
teams to work together to provide the best services that we can for
the population that we serve.
And improving services for patients goes hand in hand with
improving working conditions for our staff.
We are now just weeks away from merging our three Trusts so we
can work as one team. Working as one organisation will allow us to
continue to make changes that we know will lead to better outcomes
for patients, and also benefit the thousands of people who work
here. We will attract people wanting to join us at one of the
biggest Trusts in the country, with world-leading specialties. And
it will offer better career progression and development
opportunities for those who are already part of the team.
There is a lot to look forward to in 2020, and your on-going
support is really appreciated.
