Hospital Heroes 2018 - Patients' Choice award
Nominations for the 2018 Patients' Choice awards are now open!
Dedicated staff at Southend University Hospital have been
proving themselves to be everyday heroes to patients and their
families, day in and day out.
Joining forces with The Echo, for the sixth consecutive year,
the Trust is on a quest to discover its own Hospital Heroes as
nominated by you, the public.
Nominated individuals or teams can demonstrate any of the
- they take the time to care for others
- they are good communicators, caring with compassion and
empathy, treating others with dignity and respect
- they respect patients' time, giving others choice and
- they involve patients in their treatment decisions and
- they are sensitive to the needs of others
Last year's winner was Consultant Urological Surgeon,
Panagiotis Dimopoulos, who received almost 60% of last year's
record breaking 16,000 votes. He collected his award to thunderous
applause, but like all the winners on the evening was humble about
On winning the award, he said: "It was a surprise, I feel
really honoured. The true heroes are those struggling in their
everyday lives for their health, I'm just one of the many people at
Southend Hospital who helps improve their lives. It was quite
unexpected to hear that I got over 8,000 votes, so I just want to
thank everyone who voted for me."
