Activities of daily living advisor (ADLA), Maxine Evans, from the rehab department was nominated for the ‘fantastic’ work she does with patients: agreeing to see them at a moment’s notice, taking a genuine interest in their welfare and making their stay in hospital more bearable and fun.

Maxine , pictured receiving her award from non-executive director Tim Young, was originally seconded to the hospital eight years ago to set up its discharge planning unit.

She says: "I am very lucky. I don't just enjoy my job - I love it, which is why I stayed. Every day is so varied and we really can make a difference to peoples' lives, which is what I like."
