April's Hospital Hero - Carmen Bradnam

14 April 2013

Hospital Heroes

April’s hero was Carmen Bradnam, cardiac rehab assistant, who was nominated for her sterling work with cardiac patients after they leave hospital.

For the past 10 months she has given up every Tuesday afternoon (the only day she does not work) to help bridge the gap between hospital care and home by taking patients through their exercise circuits, monitoring them and answering their questions.

Her nomination praised the inspirational way she offers emotional and physical support to help them overcome a difficult and stressful episode. Patients confessed it was only Carmen's friendly face and reassurance which persuaded them to attend the community sessions.

We also applaud Sister Stephanie Clark who receive a highly commended award.

Stephanie, who works in the oncology and radiotherapy oncology OPD, is another member of our staff who cares for patients and colleagues alike. She provides the best possible advice, support and physical, social and psychological care for patients and ensures that her staff have the skills and knowledge necessary for their roles. Adverse weather conditions never prevent her from turning up for work from her Chelmsford home and she regularly stays on to do extra hours for patients who are unwell or awaiting admission from clinic.
