July's Hospital Hero - Claire Buckell
14 July 2013
July's hospital hero is clinical development nurse, Claire Buckell.
Clinical development nurse Claire Buckell had already made a
name for herself after leading our snack round service to victory
in the recent Patient Safety 2013 awards organised by the Nursing
Times and Health Service Journal.
The initiative all stemmed from a conversation with a ward
kitchen assistant who was concerned patients were not eating all of
their meals. Claire took it upon herself to complete an audit,
looking at the nutritional intake of patients on a care of the
elderly ward. She then rallied a group of ward managers, matrons
and dietitians - as well as Medirest - and the snack rounds were
Claire's hard work and dedication were rewarded here when she
collected her certificate and prize from chief nurse and deputy
chief executive, Sue Hardy - just days before going off on
maternity leave for the birth of her first child.
Claire's nomination praised her drive and commitment in getting
the snack rounds off the ground and then nationally recognised: "It
is all thanks to Claire's determination to improve care for
patients and her ability to change a problem into a solution."
Claire even holds fundraising events for nutrition in her own
time and supports our Feeding Buddies on the wards.
