December's Hospital Hero - Hazel Lincoln

Hospital Heroes

December's hospital hero is stroke unit rehab assistant, Hazel Lincoln.

Hazel was nominated for designing a sign for stroke patients to be displayed when they are washing or dressing. It reads simply : 'please come back later, I am having a wash' and is now in use throughout the unit with the potential of going hospital-wide.

Hazel was prompted to come up with a solution when she found that patients in side rooms and behind curtains were frequently being disturbed while washing and dressing - often being exposed to those passing or to other patients.

A staunch defender of patients' dignity, she undertook the task as a personal objective and persevered to get the sign approved for use. Feedback has been excellent and patients can now wash and dress undisturbed.
