April's Hospital Heroes - learning disabilities information group
02 May 2014
April's Hospital Heroes are the learning disabilities information group.
The group have collectively demonstrated our values by working
beyond their roles to facilitate an idea which came from our
This was to produce a film to help communicate to those with
learning disabilities what happens during an outpatients
They took collective responsibility for bringing the idea to
life, ensured throughout the process that the views of all involved
were listened to, and strove to make a real difference to the
experiences of a particularly vulnerable group of our patients.
The team worked alongside their day jobs to organise funding for
the film, scripting it in consultation with the service users and
helping them to be part of the filming, and even for two of the
team appearing in it themselves.
The end result has been much applauded and led to a reception
hosted by Lord Brian Rix, who's charitable foundation provided the
funding, where the film was premiered to an invited audience
including MPs and dignitaries as well as the service users
themselves who had the original idea.
As a result of their efforts the Trust received excellent
publicity for the film which can be viewed on our learning disabilities page and plans are
now in place to film a sequel looking at a visit to A&E.
