October's Hospital Hero - Kumar Nair
24 October 2014
October's Hospital Hero is Southbourne ward manager, Kumar Nair.
The August bank holiday may have provided an extra day off for
many hospital staff, but for ward manager Kumar Nair it presented
an opportunity to move Edmund Stone ward to its new location in the
tower block with the least amount of disruption.
Kumar was nominated by uro-oncology clinical nurse specialist,
Ann French, one of handful of colleagues who helped him coordinate
and move the entire ward - complete with patients - from one side
of the hospital to the other. This included everything from
fixtures and fittings to paper and pencils.
Kumar's main priority during the move was his patients, making
sure they were safe and comfortable and that their dignity and
respect was maintained throughout. His second priority was the
staff on duty, ensuring they were supported and that essential
items were still to hand.
Since successfully moving to their new location Kumar and his
staff have worked continuously to make Southbourne ward more
efficient and effective.
