March's Hospital Hero - Melanie King
27 March 2015
March's Hospital Hero is fetal medicine unit ward clerk, Melanie King.
Described as the fetal medicine unit's 'backbone', Melanie's
support has been invaluable since the new one of a kind facility
opened in October. Her professionalism and commitment to the unit's
multidisciplinary team are second to none.
Melanie originally started working on the postnatal ward and
volunteered to work on the unit when it first opened. With no one
to show her ropes Melanie quickly adapted and made the role her
own. She is a true asset to the team, often working overtime and
extra days to help out when the unit is particularly busy.
Midwife Siobhan Chaplin, who nominated Melanie for this month's
award, said: "Melanie makes every woman who calls or visits the
unit feel like an individual, no matter what time of the day it is
or who they are. We see around 50 women a day and they are always
complimentary of the service she provides.
"Since day one Melanie has really pulled us through when we have
felt the strain. She keeps everyone focused, pushing us forward and
really keeping the team spirit going. There have been times we have
all needed a favour or a shoulder to lean on and Melanie is always
there to help. I know we would all struggle without her
professional skills and, of course, her smile!"
