Hospital Heroes, January 2019: Dr Viola Zuokumor
01 January 2019
The winner of our Hospital Heroes monthly award for January 2019 is Dr Viola Zuokumor.
Midwife, Emma Connolly, said:
I work as part of the Missing Piece Service which involves
debriefing women who have been traumatised by their birth
experience. Within the last 6 months I have received
incredible feedback on 3 occasions with regards to the care and
compassion shown by Viola.
It is evident that Viola made a scary and distressing experience
much better for these women and partners. I have always found
Viola to be professional, approachable and I believe she is a role
model to her colleagues.
Some of the feedback from the patients:
'Viola was incredible and we actually called our baby's middle
name 'Viola' after her.'
'She was brilliant and funny but in a reassuring way. She
was a memorable person and we were amazed when she came to see us
the next day on the ward just to have a chat and see how we
'She was amazing, really reassuring and listened to our
wishes. She was so lovely and she genuinely cared about
me. I loved her.'
It is clear Viola really takes the time to communicate to her
patients and follows up on their emotional well-being as well as
their physical well-being. She gives people her time and
treats patients as individuals.
Hearing such amazing feedback makes me feel really proud to have
her in our team. She really does make a huge difference to
our women and I feel this needs to be acknowledged.
