First ever Zombie Walk at the Pier

26 October 2012

Arrrrgh! Take the Pier Ghost train to the end of Southend Pier to take part in the very first Pier Zombie walk, just as the light is fading, and you might come across someone like this ashen-faced soul.

The walk, which starts at the Cultural Centre at the end of the Pier, is being held onSaturday November 3 at 3pm and promises to be fun for all the family, with money going toSouthendHospital's Bosom Pals Appeal on the Road for digital breast cancer screening equipment.

There is no charge to join the walk for participants and travel on the shiver-making 'Pier ghost train' is free.

Why not stop by the ticket point to pose in your best Zombie attire for a photograph in our medieval stocks, with donations going to the Appeal?

Following their (optional) close-up, walkers will stagger and lope - zombie-stylie, down along the Pier, and up Pier Hill to the Park Inn Palace Hotel.

The hotel is holding a special screening of the hilariously scary - but child friendly - classic horror/comedy 'Carry on Screaming' which starts at 5pm. The bar will be open and hot food will be available.

The Cultural Centre will be open from midday for participants to assemble and to get ready. There won't be any private changing or make up rooms available; zombies will be expected to apply their own make-up.

To round off the day there will be a grand fireworks display on the seafront that evening. The event is being organised by the video production company The White Bus.

"It should be a really good afternoon and evening out and what better cause to support than breast cancer services at Southend Hospital?" says hospital community fundraiser Kayley Harvey, pictured here in the stocks.
