Invitation to focus on eye condition

18 April 2012

A Southend University Hospital eye specialist has teamed up with the International Glaucoma Association to organise a public meeting on a common eye condition.

Everyone is welcome to attend the event which will provide more information about glaucoma - a condition which affects around one in 50 people over the age of 40, rising to one in 10 amongst the over-75s. Southend University Hospital's eye department currently sees more than 15,000 with the condition.

Consultant ophthalmologist and glaucoma specialist, Mr Saab Bhermi, will give a presentation on surgery and laser treatment for glaucoma, while a colleague from the Association will discuss medication.

Mr Bhermi said: "As this condition affects so many people in our local community, we want to give them the opportunity to ask the questions they never get round to at their clinic appointments.

"As well as the two talks, there will be plenty of time for questions - as well as tea and coffee!"

The meeting will be held in St Peter's church hall, Eastbourne Grove, Westcliff, SS0 0QF, on Thursday, April 26 between 18.00 and 19.30.
