Southend Hospital are top locally in flu fighting success
28 November 2014
Public Health England have released figures regarding the seasonal influenza vaccine uptake amongst frontline healthcare workers in England and Southend Hospital has come top locally.
Southend, with 1,706 seasonal flu doses given since 1st
September 2014, may have given less doses than Basildon &
Thurrock, 1,872, and Colchester, 1,753, but those numbers don't
show the full picture.
The hospital has had a 51% vaccine uptake, an improvement of 12%
compared to last year.
That sees the percentage of staff who've taken up the flu jabs
3% higher than those at Basildon & Thurrock Hospital and
although it's also 51% at Colchester Hospital, they have seen a 3%
drop in percentage uptake compared to the same time last year.
Southend Hospital's flu fighter campaign aimed at frontline
staff has included flu jab drop in sessions for staff and a boxing
themed video filmed at The Locker Room Gym in Southend
raising awareness about giving flu the jab.
Catherine Paget, Head of Occupational Health & Wellbeing
Services, said: "The fight against flu isn't over yet, we haven't
reached December yet and we'll be continuing to encourage staff to
get the flu jab right up until February but it's encouraging to see
we've made such an improvement since last year."
