Easter egg bonanza for young hospital patients

27 March 2013

Children on Southend University Hospital’s Neptune ward were on the receiving end of some Easter sweetness, thanks to supermarkets Waitrose and Tesco.

The two retailers donated dozens of eggs which were distributed to sweet-toothed young patients by Southend West MP David Amess and Southend Mayor Councillor Sally Carr.

Among those on the receiving end of their seasonal bounty was three-year-old Matthew Kennedy, from Canvey, pictured here with mum, Samantha.

Hospital play specialist, Lisa Kawa-Akenbu, said: "These chocolate treats were a welcome surprise to our patients and helped brighten up their afternoon. We are grateful to both the Mayor and Mr Amess, as well as the two supermarkets for their generosity."
