Health Care

Thanks to the success of shows such as Call the Midwife and One Born Every Minute, a career in midwifery is now much in demand. So there has never been a better time to realise your dream of helping women deliver their babies.

Last year maternity services at Southend University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust helped deliver almost 4,000 babies so plenty of opportunities await across the department based at the hospital in Prittlewell Chase, Westcliff, for those seeking a rewarding career.

The trust has already welcomed a new Head of Midwifery and Gynaecology, Colleen Begg, who is leading the search for dedicated and caring professionals to join her and the team.

Colleen said: "I am delighted to have joined such a friendly, dynamic and forward thinking maternity team.

"I am excited to have been given this opportunity to work with an excellent team of midwives, medical staff and support staff.

"We are committed to providing the quality service women deserve and to enable and encourage women to be involved in the decisions around their care."

The maternity department at Southend Hospital has many outstanding services and our ambition is to become a centre of excellence which will strive to offer a seamless service for women and their babies - from conception to delivery and postnatal care.

The maternity unit currently has CNST level 2 and has just been awarded £89,000 by the Department of Health to develop a labour ward triage service.

Together with recruitment manager Hayley Hurst, Colleen is hosting an open day for midwives to learn more about new opportunities here.

You will also get the chance to meet some of our superb midwives who can tell you what it's like to work at Southend.

The open day takes place on Wednesday May 29 between 10am and 3pm at the Best Western Hotel, Writtle Road, Chelmsford

There will also be the opportunity to find out about out excellent preceptorship programme and meet the Family Support Team who can tell you about the wide range of staff benefits we offer.

Colleen said: "If you are dynamic midwife who is both committed and passionate about delivering woman centred care that offers women real choice - look no further.

"Why not come and join our progressive team, take up the challenge and be part of something special."
