Bargain Sundays to boost hospital appeal

08 July 2013

It is usually the early bird who bags all the bargains, but boot sale fans can still have a lie-in and get lucky with Southend University Hospital’s Late Riser fundraising venture.

On Sunday, July 28 and every Sunday in August, the car park at the front of the hospital (car park D) will be turned into a giant boot fair with all the pitch money going to the Bosom Pals AppealOn The Road.

Not only do sellers get to keep all their sales money, but those who prefer a good rummage can be pretty sure of a few trophies to take away.

Elise Fleetwood, the hospital's events and corporate relations manager, said: "This is a great opportunity for people to have a summer clear-out and earn themselves some welcome cash while helping our appeal at the same time. And, as sellers don't have to set up until 9am, they don't have to get up at the crack of dawn as with most boot sales. Selling starts at 10am so those coming to buy can have an even longer lie-in. Summer's here and the living really is easy!"

Pitches cost just £8 and sellers are asked to pre-register by contacting fundraising@southend.nhs.uk or calling 01702 385337.

The Late Riser boot sales are part of the hospital's final push for the appeal's £500,000 target to fund two new mobile trailers for breast screening with the necessary full-field digital mammography machines to provide shorter examination times and better image quality.
