Champion fundraiser Joyce Long has been holding sales for Southend University Hospital for more than 20 years. She has sold everything from antiques and toys to musical instruments and sports equipment.

But this time she is branching into something completely new with a stall of second-hand clothes. So, for lovers of the retro look, Joyce's home at 22 Park Road, Thundersley is the place to head for in search of a few genuine bargains to spice up the wardrobe.

The sale runs from 9am to 4pm every day from Monday July 15 to Saturday July 20. All money raised will go to the hospital's £500,000 Bosom Pals Appeal On The Road. It aims to fund two new mobile trailers for breast screening with the necessary full-field digital mammography machines to provide shorter examination times and better image quality.

Kayley Harvey, the hospital's community fundraising manager, said: "Joyce literally does keep coming up with the goods. Her sales are now legendary. So many people look forward to going to them as they know they are sure to find something special and different.

"We really are so grateful to her for her unflagging support for the work of the hospital."
