Values photography exhibition at Southend University Hospital

A photography exhibition featuring work from South Essex College students opened last night at Southend University Hospital.
In March 2013 the trust set nearly 50 photography students at
the college a challenge to capture the hospital values in a visual
form. The exhibition, featuring around 20 highlights chosen for
display, celebrates their work and the diversity of life in the
The images representing the hospital values of 'Everybody
Matters, Everything Counts, Everyone's Responsible' show the
trust's commitment to them, both for their patients and staff.
The exhibition offers a variety of interpretations and
techniques, ranging from portraits of staff in different hospital
uniforms to abstract shots of clinical equipment.
Jacqueline Totterdell, chief executive, said: "Having our values
visualised on our walls brings alive what they truly represent.
"It's great for us to engage with the local community. We want
to build relationships with the people we serve. It's especially
important to engage with the future talent of Southend, that's why
our links with South Essex College are so important.
"This artwork will also add to our goal of creating a welcoming,
interesting environment for our patients."
Emily Curtin, 18 from Brentwood, a photography student who
conducted her shoot in the hospital laboratories said: "I would
like to say thank you to the hospital for this opportunity; it's
amazing to see my work exhibited in a public place."
