Rain didn’t dampen spirits at Great Pier Walk

31 March 2015

Over 200 people braved the elements as they walked the soggy and windswept 1.33 miles (and back again) of Southend’s Pier for charity.

They may have taken a bit of a beating from the weather but they weren't going to let that beat them as they donned trainers and walking boots to help raise money for Southend Hospital's Keyhole Cancer Appeal.

The monies and sponsorship has yet to be collected so the total is still unclear, a bit like the weather on the day, but one thing that was clear was the commitment and dedication of local people in raising money for this local cause.

Elise Fleetwood, fundraising manager at Southend Hospital, said: "We are hugely thankful for the hard work and commitment Leigh Rotary Club showed to make sure the Pier Walk such a success.  Despite the disappointing weather conditions, hundreds of supporters walked the planks to help raise money for the Keyhole Cancer Appeal, we are hugely grateful.  Big thanks also to our amazing band of volunteers who braved the bad weather in support of Southend Hospital."
