Local NHS staff deliver bags of joy for patients stuck in hospital over Christmas
24 December 2015
Staff from local NHS organisation. Castle Point and Rochford Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) have donated hand-picked gifts to fill 25 hand-sewn bags that form a life-sized advent calendar.
The bags of gifts will be handed out to patients in Southend
Hospital over the Christmas period.
Yvonne Blücher, chief nurse at Southend, said: "This is an
incredibly generous gesture from our colleagues at NHS Castle Point
and Rochford CCG and is very much appreciated by our patients on
Windsor ward, their families and our staff. Those patients who
unfortunately will be with us over the Christmas period will
certainly appreciate this thoughtfulness."
Ian Stidston Accountable Officer for NHS Castle Point and
Rochford CCG said: "The nature of our work is about how best to
deliver local NHS services in the interests of local
residents. Staff felt strongly that they wanted to bring a
smile to those in hospital, especially at this time of year.
Sometimes a smile is the best medicine."
The CCG would like to thank Waitrose who kindly donated some
vouchers to this project in line with the John Lewis 'Man on the
Moon' Christmas advertising campaign.
