Coffee morning is tasty triumph
25 September 2015
You could have been forgiven for thinking that the Great British Bake Off had landed at Southend Hospital’s Macmillan Centre with the array delicious cakes on display, there were in fact part of the national Macmillan coffee morning.
If Paul and Mary had been there though they certainly would not
have been disappointed (okay Paul might have been but what else is
new) with something to suit every taste bud from a toffee apple
cake to coffee and walnut cake.
Volunteers raised their coffee cups and an impressive £700 from
the coffee morning that also helped raise the spirits of many of
those in attendance, there was also raffle that tempted many with
its array of prizes.
Friederike Englund, Macmillan information & support manager
at the hospital, said: "We've got a fantastic group of volunteers
here at the Macmillan Centre and they've baked themselves proud.
I'd like to thank everyone who contributed to the day and helped
support the centre, there was a fantastic atmosphere and it was
great to see old and new faces alike as well and many friends and
family, young and old."
Staff on the Elizabeth Loury ward at the hospital also helped
raise over £70 through their very own bake sale.
