Health Care

Dr Sajid Alam, stroke consultant at Southend Hospital recently visited the Friends Together Support Group, a general support group based at St Luke's Community Hub, Cluny Square, Southend.

Dr Alam gave the group a talk on the prevention and awareness of strokes and mini-strokes, the group thanked him for coming along at such a busy time for the hospital and promised to spread the word amongst the local community.

He said: "It is important that health education expands from outside the hospital and into the community. Strong community groups like this one are able to influence health behaviours. Educating the public leads to early recognition of stroke symptoms and can potentially reduce a person's disability if they are brought into hospital early for timely evaluation and treatment."
