Stroke awareness talk is a hit

Dr Sajid Alam, stroke consultant at Southend Hospital recently visited the Friends Together Support Group, a general support group based at St Luke's Community Hub, Cluny Square, Southend.
Dr Alam gave the group a talk on the prevention and awareness of
strokes and mini-strokes, the group thanked him for coming along at
such a busy time for the hospital and promised to spread the word
amongst the local community.
He said: "It is important that health education expands from
outside the hospital and into the community. Strong community
groups like this one are able to influence health behaviours.
Educating the public leads to early recognition of stroke symptoms
and can potentially reduce a person's disability if they are
brought into hospital early for timely evaluation and
