Hospital Heroes 2016 - Patients' Choice award

Southend Hospital has again teamed up with The Echo to help find a Patients' Choice winner for our annual Hospital Heroes awards.
Voted for by the public, in conjunction with The Echo, it's the
patients', carers', relatives' and visitors' chance to say thank
you by nominating a member of staff who has gone that extra mile to
deliver the best possible service and really embodies our ethos of
care with compassion.
This individual or team can demonstrate any of the following
- they take the time to care for others
- they are good communicators, caring with compassion and
empathy, treating others with dignity and respect
- they respect patients' time, giving others choice and
- they involve patients in their treatment decisions and
Last year's winners were the Neptune children's ward staff
(pictured). One of the nominators said: "We are able to leave our
daughter in their care and know, without any doubt, she is not only
safe and cared for but she is also happy and comfortable in their
Sue Hardy, chief executive of the hospital, said: "This is a very
special category as all nominations come in from the public, so we
know that whoever is nominated is a shining beacon for the hospital
and their profession. We cover so many roles here at the hospital
so whether it is a nurse, a receptionist or a doctor, or someone
from another area, they can stand proud."
Chris Hatton, editor of the Echo, added: "As a community paper
we are proud to be part of these awards to find our local heroes.
It's really humbling to see so many people passionate about caring
for others and making a real positive difference to so many
patients' lives and their families."
