Thursday 16 June was designated Cupcake Day by the Alzheimer’s Society and the Dementia Team and Alzheimer’s Society representatives from Southend University got in on the act with a trolley brimming with delicious cupcakes.
The trolley made its way round the wards and departments for
selling cakes to relatives, staff and patients, not only
brightening their day but also hoping to raise £200 for the
dementia appeal at the hospital.
Michael Daley, Dementia Practitioner at Southend, said: "Thank
you to everyone who bought a cupcake, it will help make a real
difference to our appeal. it was great to meet so many people and
raise awareness not just of the appeal but also of the services we
and the Alzheimer's Society offer within the Trust."
The appeal aims to raise £100,000 to provide two therapeutic and
interactive day rooms at the hospital, as well as specialist
hearing aids, bed and chair sensors, mobile sensory units and
reminiscence items such as memory boxes.
