Leigh Horne, Deputy Manager of Southend Hospital’s Ladybird Nursery, has been filmed as part of a video promoting courses at Southend Adult Community College.

The video features Leigh, who has worked at the nursery for six-and-a-half years, talking about how the nursery team have helped students from the college by offering them work placements to enhance their studies.

Student Paulina Roj, 18, originally from Poland, has secured an Access to Higher Education course at South Essex College after successfully completing a voluntary placement at the nursery. Pauline hopes to progress to an Early Years degree at university.

Leigh said: "Paulina had already been volunteering at the hospital so it was great to be able to help her with her studies by offering her a work placement. It's great to be able to offer practical experience and to support young people. It benefits both our staff and the children at the nursery."

Jane Watts, Childcare Tutor and Assessor and Team Leader for Level 5 Childcare at Southend Adult Community College, said: "All the team at Southend Adult Community College are so proud of Paulina, she is a real inspiration to other young people, to never give up on your dreams and that learning can transform lives."
