The Big Health Day 2016

Health Care
Southend University Hospital is hosting a uniform ‘fashion show’ at a special free event for adults with learning disabilities aimed to help boost their health and wellbeing.
The Big Health Day 2016 takes place on Thursday 7 July from 10am
until 3pm at Southend Leisure and Tennis Centre, Garon Park in
Southend.
Organised by Project 49 day service in conjunction with South
Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust, the event will
also include health related stalls, exercise taster sessions and a
stage area with live music.
The 'fashion show' highlights the different health professionals
those attending hospital might meet, with uniforms modelled by
Project 49 service users.
Sarah Haines, Specialist Nurse for Learning Disabilities at
Southend University Hospital, said: "There are a huge range of
different uniforms at the hospital. It can get very confusing and
we don't want people with learning disabilities or autism to be
scared about coming to hospital.
"It was decided that a good way of learning about the different
types of uniforms was to host a fashion show - it's visual,
engaging and fun."
The Big Health Day aims to bring together professionals, local
services and the community to give easily accessible information,
health and wellbeing advice and opportunities for people with
learning disabilities, their family and carers.
