Patients’ Choice award –recognising those who care with compassion
28 July 2016
Health Care
Southend Hospital has again teamed up with The Echo to help find potential Patients' Choice nominees for our annual Hospital Heroes awards – but nominations close on Friday 5 August, so you need to hurry if you want your nomination to count!
Exclusively nominated for by the public, it's the patients',
carers', relatives' and visitors' chance to say thank you by
nominating a member of staff who has gone that extra mile to
deliver the best possible service and really embodies our ethos of
care with compassion.
Last year's winners, the Neptune Children's Ward team, have
their 2015 trophy on display for all to see as they enter the ward.
And they are still just as proud as they were during the 2015
awards night.
Speaking on behalf of the team, Susan Cornwell, a Paediatric
Practice Educator, said: "The whole team feel very proud of the
achievements in winning this award. We are very dedicated, work
tremendously hard and it was fantastic to be recognised.
"The recognition from the public has such a positive impact on
staff, who are often working under huge pressures. It was such a
huge honour to be nominated last year, whether we won or lost we
knew that it meant that we were appreciated and singled out for
going above and beyond our duties by the public. So that is why it
is important that staff across the Trust get recognised again this
year."
The Neptune team were described as consistently polite,
cheerful, helpful, informative, knowledgeable, willing, trustworthy
and reassuring. They went out of their way to make an extremely
difficult situation bearable for a family whose daughter has had
repeated prolonged visits to the hospital with a very complex
condition.
The nominators, the Neale family, said: "We are able to leave
our daughter in their care and know, without any doubt that she is
not only safe and cared for but she is also happy and comfortable
in their care. Everyone on the ward cares so passionately about
what they do and how they do it."
Do you know someone who has made a real difference to you or a
loved one at Southend Hospital?
Your nomination can make a real difference and help celebrate
the fantastic work of individual staff, or a team at Southend
Hospital who go above and beyond their duty.
The public's nominees will be shortlisted to three by a panel of
judges, including the Echo's Editor, Chris Hatton, and the
hospital's Chief Executive, Sue Hardy. That final three will then
be open to a public vote, that last year saw over 10,500 votes, to
decide who will becrowned the 2016 Patients' Choice winner at the
Hospital Heroes Awards at the end of September.
