The Ladybird Nursery, based at Southend University Hospital, celebrated a recent accreditation by holding a garden party for children, families and staff.

The Nursery has been working towards the Pre-school Learning Alliance Accreditation Scheme, a three-stage process which has taken over two years and has involved the Nursery's commitment to quality improvement.

The scheme has been an important tool to help the Nursery reflect on and improve every aspect of their service, with a special focus on developing their partnership with parents and outdoor play.

Lynda Bartholomew, Nursery Manager, said: "The Nursery's vision statement is 'Working together, enabling each child to reach their full potential' and the Pre-school Learning Alliance Accreditation is a clear signal to parents and staff that we are fulfilling our massively important role in the care and education of young children."

Fred Heddell CBE, a Non-Executive Director at the hospital, has been very supportive of the nursery over the last few years and he presented the accreditation certificate to delighted staff at the garden party.

The party was a huge success and featured music and dancing and the children took part in a number of organised games such as space hopper and egg and spoon races.  And, of course, it wouldn't be a proper party without orange squash and cake.
