‘Spring’ into action for Southend Hospital by land, sea or air

This Spring, Southend Hospital Charity is inviting members of the public to help raise money for the ward or department of the hospital of their choice and its Dementia Appeal in one of three ways.
First up, why not take a stroll down the 1.33 miles of Southend
Pier and help raise money for Southend Hospital's Dementia Appeal.
Now in its 15th year and organised by The Rotary Club of
Leigh-on-Sea, the events often brings people out in their hundreds.
And this year also marks the 10th year it has supported
Prices for taking part are £5 for adults, £2.50 for children or
family tickets, which cover two adults and one or more children
aged 16 or under, are priced at £12.
Walking of a different kind is next, abseiling down the side of
the 154 foot tall Tower Block at Southend Hospital. No experience
is necessary to tackle the tower and it is open to everyone over
the age of 16. The event takes place on Saturday 13 May and the
entry fee is £40 plus minimum sponsorship of £100 for a ward or
department of your choice.
Finally, there is an oar-some challenge for those intrepid land
lubbers wanting to take to water. All you have to do isbuild and
sail a raft in this year's Southend Raft Race, which takes place on
Sunday 25 June. Entry for eight people is £200, which goes to
Rotary Charities, with additional sponsorship going to the
Fundraising manager, Elise Fleetwood, said: "Last year local
people helped us raise almost a million pounds and with events such
as these and the kind support of the people of Essex we know that
2017 is going to be just as an exciting year for fundraising here
at Southend Hospital. Every penny raised really does make a
difference to patients."
