Volunteers festive thanks from Southend Hospital
11 December 2018
Around 100 Southend Hospital volunteers – and Pets As Therapy (PAT) dog Rolo - were treated to their annual slap-up buffet, a small thank-you from hospital chiefs for the year-round support these invaluable unpaid helpers give the hospital.
The event, attended by Southend Hospital's Chairman, Alan Tobias
OBE, and other executives, was held at St Peter's Church Hall,
Eastwood Road North, Leigh.
Paying tribute, Alan said: "I say it every year but you are so
important in the running of this hospital, whatever your role."
Voluntary services manager Jane O'Connell, pictured to the left
of Rolo and owner Claire Dean, said: "This afternoon is just a very
small token of our appreciation."
The hospital has around 450 volunteers of all ages who do a
multitude of tasks, including helping on the wards, admin, guiding,
reception, dementia befriending, gardening and working in its
charity shops. For more information about becoming a volunteer
