Dementia training success
28 January 2019
Almost 20 Southend Hospital Feeding Buddies and Dementia Befrienders – all dedicated volunteers on the hospital wards – attended a dementia training session to help give those helping in that area a greater awareness and opportunity to ask any questions.
In the session they talked lots about nutrition, how people with
dementia find touch very important and also got chance to hear
about and share real life scenarios. Several of the volunteers also
have a parent who is living with dementia, so they were also able
to share their very personal experience as well.
Jane O'Connell, Voluntary Services Manager, said: "We've got a
fantastic group of Dementia Befrienders and Feeding Buddies here at
the Trust, so it was great to see so many of them take an active
part in this training. I'm pleased to say we have two further
sessions planned and already have a further 20 volunteers signed
