Southend takes Pride

22 July 2019

Southend LGBT+ Group and the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Team represented the Trust at this year’s Southend Pride for the second time, with around 30 members of staff. The team had a stand and many other NHS staff marched in the parade.

Despite the weather, this did not stop people marching and attending the event. The team saw 1,000 people march in the parade through Southend high street and over 5,000 attended throughout the day.

The day was a great success and although there was a mixture of sunshine and showers, there was an abundance of rainbows.

Lisa Walton, from the Patient Experience Team, was a volunteer on the stand. She said: "Once again it was a brilliant experience and opportunity to showcase the amazing attitude Southend Hospital has towards equality and diversity, not only in our workplace but throughout our local community."

Louise McIver, Equality Diversity Inclusion Manager, said: "Thanks to the team for their support and together with the wards competition for decorating their areas in preparation for Pride and being at the event. We really did show our commitment to diversity representing the whole of the Trust. It was great team effort and fun was had by all."
