Out of this world donation for space themed MRI scanner for children
24 December 2019
A big thank you to the Rotary Club of Westcliff-On-Sea for their generous donation of £828 which will help redecorate a new MRI suite to make the experience less daunting for young patients.
The space-themed, child-friendly Apollo Suite renovation will
cost £31,500 and will create a more relaxing and enjoyable
environment for children.
Young patients will be able to watch an introductory video on an
iPad, explaining what happens during an MRI scan, and 3D
interactive apps will offer an insight into what it will be like
inside the scanner. A mini toy MRI scanner will then allow
children to understand the process and become familiar with the
The space-themed decoration will help tap into a child's
imagination and, once the scan starts, the child will be able to
watch a DVD of their choice via a periscope mirror with the "relax
and view video system".
Graham Reeder from the Westcliff Rotary Club said: "The money
was raised during the Rotary's annual Preposterous Stories event,
where three readers tell absurd stories and guests then bet on
which of the wacky tales are true. We are delighted that the funds
raised have gone towards such a worthwhile cause."
