Fundraising ball to say thank you for caring
28 August 2019
Two friends, Tracy Betchley and Joanne Pallant from Hockley raised more than £2,000 to say thank you to staff on Elizabeth Loury Ward at Southend University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, for the care provided to Tracy after breast cancer treatment.
The pair, using their joint name Tassels and in association with
FLOffice Support Limited, organised a fundraising ball at the
Rochford Hundred Rugby Club earlier this summer. 88 guests attended
and the £2,218 raised has been donated to Elizabeth Loury Ward.
In 2017, Tracy was diagnosed with breast cancer and had to have
a full mastectomy and lymph node removal on her left side. Tracy
stayed on Elizabeth Loury Ward during her treatment and said the
staff there gave her "the best care."
Joanne said:"Tracy had received such fantastic support both
emotionally and physically from Elizabeth Loury Ward, whilst
undergoing the horrible effects of chemotherapy to fight breast
cancer. We thought that this was the ideal place to benefit from
any monies raised, as this ward has also helped many of our
other friends over the years. The money raised is going towards new
recliner chairs for the patients and visitors. This was our way of
thanking and giving back to those who give so much to others."
Lisa Drake, Ward Manager said:"The team on Elizabeth Loury
Ward are really grateful to Tracy and Joanne for their
fundraising. This donation will enable us to replace some of
our older chairs with more comfortable ones and will make a real
difference for our patients."
