Primary school donates money to hospital
21 January 2020
Pupils from Edward Francis Primary School, Rayleigh presented a cheque for £4,000 to Neptune Children’s Ward and Macmillan Cancer Information Centre at Southend University Hospital.
The money was raised by pupils from all year groups, their
parents and staff through organising raffles, coffee mornings, and
cake sales. Hand-made daisy brooches carefully crafted by the
pupils were also sold.
Anna Smith, Charities Co-ordinator at Edward Francis Primary
School said: "We like to raise money for the local hospital and
children's ward. Many of us have experienced our children staying
on Neptune Ward for various treatments. We see this as a great
opportunity to show our appreciation and thanks to both Neptune
Ward and the Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Centre."
Edward Francis Primary School has donated more than £10,000 to
Southend Hospital Charity since 2008.
Some of their recent contributions have enabled the children's
ward to purchase a brand new examination couch, sensory items and a
tablet device, which has been gifted to the Paediatric MRI team to
enable them to better explain MRI scans to young patients.
Charlotte Edwards, Paediatric Nurse Specialist, greeted the
pupils on Neptune Ward and explained: "Charitable donations have a
tremendously positive effective by enabling the ward to purchase
equipment and toys that enhance children's experience of being in
hospital and this simply would not be possible without the support
and generosity of the community."
Amongst the visitors to Neptune Ward was Charlotte's daughter,
Isabel Edwards, a previous student of Edward Francis Primary
School, who also kindly saved up £100 of her own pocket money to
buy toys and books for the patients on the Ward.
Kayley Donovan, Community Fundraising Manager at Southend
Hospital said: "We were thrilled to welcome back pupils and staff
from Edward Francis Primary School, who have once again given so
generously to our Neptune Children's Ward and the Macmillan Cancer
Information and Support Centre. Thank you so much for the money you
raised through such amazing fundraising efforts."
