Brand new £1 million HDU to enhance patient care

Southend Hospital is expanding its critical care facility to provide, for the very first time, a purpose built high-dependency unit (HDU) for patients who need extra care.

It will strengthen the service the hospital provides to those who need additional care, but do not need intensive care, which will help improve safety of patient care and the patient experience at the Trust.

The £1 million state-of-the-art eight bed facility will open this spring and will support patients from all specialities who need a higher level of care than can be provided on the speciality wards.

Images of how the HDU is expected to look have been released and showcase what the new area will look like when completed, highlighting the proposed ward, bed bays and relatives' room.
