Chloe’s nursery apprenticeship helped land dream job
05 February 2020
Chloe Skedge has now secured her dream job as a Nursery Carer, after completing two apprenticeships at the Ladybird Nursery at Southend University Hospital.
The 20 year old from Canvey first began her Nursery Carer and
Nursery Nurse level 2 apprenticeship having just turned 17. After
she completed the year-long qualification she then continued to the
level 3 course for a further two years, earning a wage and gaining
a qualification as she went.
Being able to learn whilst working was the perfect setup for
Chloe, who had always wanted to work in childcare since she studied
it at school. She said: "For me, it was a job with a qualification
attached. I've just really enjoyed learning this way in general,
with the added bonus of working in an area I love. It's not class
room based, It's in the real world of work, so I got to see it
hands on and build more experience.
"I've really grown in confidence during that time, dealing with
children, staff and parents. It's all helped me grow in my role and
become a better employee. I've just learnt so much from my
colleagues in this real world experience, something I just wouldn't
have got just being in a classroom. "
Chloe completed her apprenticeship journey in January this year
and was snapped up by the nursery in her new role as level 2
Nursery Carer. And now she is helping the next apprentices at the
nursery with their journey.
Chloe said: "It's great, as I get to give them my insights and
they see where I have got to at the end of it. It's just nice to be
able give something back."
Ladybird Nursery Manager, Lynda Bartholomew, said: "Chloe has
been a real credit, deciding to take her on in a fulltime position
after completing her apprenticeship was an easy decision. She is a
key member of our team, we love her and so do the children."
