Southend Taxi Drivers Charity Fund has donated 14 portable DVD players for children on Neptune ward, the children’s ward at Southend Hospital, meaning children can now watch their favourite films in the comfort of their own bed.

The charity, which was founded in 1972, works with sick, disabled and local children in need and covers the districts of Southend, Rayleigh, Rochford and Castle Point.

Janet Worth, senior healthcare play specialist on Neptune ward, said: "The portable DVD players will really benefit the children on our ward; they help provide a form of distraction for children who might be undergoing certain procedures or are experiencing pain. The Neptune team would like to say a huge thank you to the Southend Taxi Drivers Charity Fund for their kind donation."
