Estuary ward

Medicine for the elderly, rheumatology, general medicine

Ward details

Estuary ward is a medical ward whose patients are mostly elderly people who have been admitted with a wide range of symptoms and  conditions.  In addition to our elderly patients, we also admit Rheumatology patients under the care of the specialist rheumatology team.

The ward is staffed by a team of dedicated nurses, experienced in caring for the elderly.  They are supported by a multi-disciplinary team consisting of the rehabilitation team, a discharge co-ordinator and social workers, all working together to provide holistic individualised care and a safe discharge home.

Estuary ward patients are elderly with complex needs and medical conditions and the staff on the ward are committed to providing care tailored to the individual needs of each person.

Visiting and other instructions

Visiting hours are between 07:00 and 21:00.  Please keep visitors to a maximum of two per bed and do not visit during the protected mealtimes.

Doctors are on the ward Monday to Friday and ward rounds take place in the mornings.  You can arrange to speak to the doctors during the afternoon visiting by talking to the nurse in charge.  There are no doctors based on the ward at the weekends.

In order to facilitate the best communication between the ward staff and the patients family and friends, we ask that there is one person, nominated by each family to ask for and receive medical information about their relative, which can then be shared with other members of the family.
