Paglesham ward

Ward details

Paglesham ward is a 26-bedded unit dedicated to rehabilitation.  Paglesham ward is the rehabilitation section of the Acute Stroke Unit providing a service to stroke and neurological patients that require intensive rehabilitation and or longer hospital stays.

We have a large multi-disciplinary team (MDT) to provide holistic care to each patient as an individual. The aim of the stroke MDT is to develop an individual rehabilitation programme for each patient in order for them to gain maximum health and enable them to become as independent as possible. The MDT incorporates

  • doctors
  • nurses
  • specialist nurses
  • stroke support worker
  • physiotherapists
  • occupational therapists
  • dietician
  • pharmacist
  • rehabilitation assistants
  • speech and language therapists
  • activities of daily living advisor
  • social workers
  • community stroke team
  • feeding buddies.

The multi-disciplinary team provides education and support to patients and relatives throughout this potentially difficult period of hospitalisation.

We aim to encourage patients to take up or renew interests and activities that will enable them to continue to lead a full and interesting life. The team help patients return safely to their homes wherever possible and, in cases where this is not possible, to help them and their families make decisions regarding future care.

We have an information room for patients and relatives to provide them with information on all aspects of post stroke care and neurological conditions.

We have an approachable team who will endeavour to answer any questions you may have and the team aims to provide a pleasant and cheerful environment to help patients benefit from their stay in hospital.
