What are Tax Credits?
Tax credits are pay outs from the
government to individuals that meet specified
requirements. There are two main types of Tax Credits called
'Working Tax Credits' and 'Child Tax
Credit'.
Working Tax Credits
Working Tax Credits are designed for individuals that work but
receive a low income. You do not need to have children in
order to qualify for this.
Child Tax Credits (CTC)
Child Tax Credits are designed for
individuals that are responsible for a minimum of one child or
young person that lives in the same house. You do not
need to be employed in order to qualify for this.
Remember Tax Credits payments
generally can only be backdated for up to three months so make sure
you find out if you are entitled to them as soon as
possible.
Child Benefit
Child benefit is designed for individuals that are responsible
for a child. The child does not have to live with
the individual and Child Benefit doesn't affect your application
for Tax Credits as it does not count as income.
