Bleeding Disorder Screen

Synonyms

BDS, Investigation of bleeding

Clinical Indications

Unexplained clinical or family history of repeated bleeding and/or bruising episodes

Test Includes

Full clotting screen, Thrombin Time, PFA screen.

In addition, specific coagulation assays will automatically be requested as determined by the results of the initial screening tests.

Specific Criteria

Patient should be bled with minimal stasis

Patient Preparation

Patient should ideally be at rest and not in acute phase reaction

Turnaround Time

2 weeks (depending on additional assays that are performed)

Specimen

Fresh citrated Blood (within 2 hours of collection)

3 x 4.5 ml blue citrated bottles

Clean venepuncture; sample transported to laboratory immediately after collection

Under-filled, clotted or haemolysed samples
