Request on ICE (if ICE is not available, a downloadable
non-gynae request form is available via a link in the Cellular
Pathology section of the Pathology Handbook).
Reports are normally issued between 4-6 days of reciept. Samples
requiring extra work may take longer, please contact the lab for
further information on delayed reports.
Material obtained by brushing should be spread along the length
of the slide, and placed immediately in absolute alcohol.
Following which the brush should be placed in a universal
containing preservative fluid (Cytolyt). The slide must be labelled
in pencil with the patients name, DOB and NHS number (hospital
number is acceptable if the NHS number is not available). The slide
must be sent to the laboratory in a slide box together with the
fluid specimen containing the brush.

For the brush, a universal containing a preservative (Cytolyt).
These can be obtained from the laboratory.
Samples should be transported to the laboratory as soon as
possible after collection. As this is a fixed sample, a slight
delay between collection and transport is not a problem. Outside
laboratory hours, specimens can be left in the post box outside the
pathology reception on the first floor of the tower block.
Store at 2 - 5ºC until the sample is prepared.
