On request.

Turnaround Time

Reports are normally issued between 4-6 days of reciept. Samples requiring extra work may take longer, please contact the lab for further information on delayed reports.

Material obtained by brushing should be spread along the length of the slide, and  placed immediately in absolute alcohol. Following which the brush should be placed in a universal containing preservative fluid (Cytolyt). The slide must be labelled in pencil with the patients name, DOB and NHS number (hospital number is acceptable if the NHS number is not available). The slide must be sent to the laboratory in a slide box together with the fluid specimen containing the brush.

N/A - Slide plus brush in Cytolyt.

For the brush, a universal containing a preservative (Cytolyt). These can be obtained from the laboratory.

Samples should be transported to the laboratory as soon as possible after collection. As this is a fixed sample, a slight delay between collection and transport is not a problem. Outside laboratory hours, specimens can be left in the post box outside the pathology reception on the first floor of the tower block.
