Endomysial Antibodies



Clinical Indications

Samples found to be low level anti tTG IgA positive are assayed for the presence of EMA IgA. Samples found to be IgA deficient are assayed for the presence of EMA IgG.

Please note: The first line assay for the investigation of Coeliac Disease and Dermatitis herpetiformis is anti tissue Transglutaminase IgA.

Test Includes

Detection of IgA and IgG antibodies against the connective tissue stroma covering individual smooth muscle fibres (endomysium).

No special preparation is required.

Turnaround Time

Samples are tested in batches and the assay is generally performed fortnightly.

Lab Handling

Aliquot and store at 4-8°C prior to testing and at -20°C or below for up to 1 month after receipt.

Causes for Rejection

Unlabelled/inadequately labelled sample

Inadequately completed request form

Delay in sample reaching laboratory.

Reference Range

Sera are screened at a dilution of 1/5. In general titres greater or equal to 1/5 are considered significant.
